Biography

Jean Yip has proudly represented Scarborough-Agincourt as the federal Member of Parliament since December 2017. Born in Scarborough and raised in Agincourt, Jean is dedicated to our community. She lives with her three sons and has continued the work of her late husband, Arnold Chan, by listening and championing the needs of all residents of Scarborough-Agincourt.

Jean believes that strong engagement, collaboration and dialogue are critical to providing effective representation. She hosts non-partisan councils for youth and seniors, information sessions, town halls and monthly coffee chats, and maintains contact with small businesses, service agencies, and faith leaders.

Her leadership and understanding of our community was best demonstrated during a time of crisis at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. She was quick to connect with Scarborough Health Network and other local health agencies to help assist the most vulnerable. Responsive to the multilingual needs of our community, she facilitated donations and deliveries of food, meals and PPE in the community, ensured constituents were kept updated with information through weekly email communications and monthly newsletters.

Jean and her Scarborough Liberal colleagues worked to deliver modern transit options to the people of Scarborough with a federal investment of $2.26 billion for the Scarborough Subway Extension. She also advocated for investment of over $26.7 million for the Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre, which will provide a dedicated space for community, healthcare, childcare, youth, seniors, and fitness programming.

Jean will continue to fight for families, seniors, small businesses, and better transit. With experience and a proven track record, Jean is devoted to continue to build a better future for Scarborough—Agincourt, and will be a strong representative for our community in Ottawa.
